Softball’s Barrera and Holman Sign National Letters of Intent

TC softball players Dalilah Barrera (Mercedes, TX) and Sidney Holman (Belton, TX) signed National Letters of Intent today to continue their careers after Temple College.

Barrera, a sophomore pitcher, signed with Texas State University. As a freshman Barrera was awarded second team All-Conference honors, appeared in 28 games starting 20 of them, compiled a record of 14-4 with 4 saves and 12 complete games, threw 122 innings, tallied up 185 strike outs (10.61 per 7 innings pitched), and had an ERA of 1.55. Barrera was recognized as the NJCAA Division 1 Pitcher of the Week for the Week of February 20-26. Barrera represented Region V North in the Juco All Star games at Lamar University earlier this month. In her four years at Mercedes High School, Barrera racked up over 800 strikeouts and helped lead her team to four straight district titles and a Sweet 16 appearance. Texas State head softball coach Ricci Woodard said this, "Pudge adds another arm to our bullpen. She threw against us this fall, and did a great job keeping us off balance. She threw strikes without giving us anything really good to hit. She spins it well, and understands what it takes to be successful in the circle."

Sidney Holman, a sophomore pitcher, signed with Baylor University. As a freshman Holman played at Abilene Christian University, helped lead her team to a second place finish, and was named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year. Holman also earned All-Southland Conference first team honors, compiled a record of 21-7 with a 1.85 ERA, threw seven shut outs, and tallied up 165 strikeouts. Holman was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on May 8 and was the first Southland pitcher last season to win 20 games. Holman was a four-year letter winner at Belton High School. She pitched eight perfect games and tossed over a dozen no-hitters, was named Max Preps Second Team All-America, received TSWA and TGCA All-State honors, was a two-time Super CenTex First Team Pitcher, was the Killeen Daily Herald Athlete of the Year, and named All-Area MVP and District MVP. Baylor University head coach Glenn Moore had this to say, "Sidney is considered by many as the top JUCO pitching prospect in the country. Her velocity is her strength, with speeds topping out at 71 mph. She has just scratched the surface of her potential."
