Softball Splits to Open Temple Tournament

The Leopard softball team opened the Temple Tournament with a 10-6 loss to San Jacinto College. The Leopards took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning but were unable to close the door and allowed six runs in the top of the seventh. Taylor Gruell pitched all seven innings and took the loss, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, 14 hits, eight walks, and four strikeouts. Alyssa Escamilla and Tiler Noyola each went 2 for 3, Escamilla with a double and two stolen bases and Noyola with a RBI, a triple, and one stolen base.

In game two the Leopards won in dominating fashion defeating Northwest Kansas Technical College 22-0 in five innings. The Leopard offense erupted for 12 runs in the top of the first and pounded out 21 hits in five innings. Lenzi Stewart and Daisy Gonzales each had four hits, Stewart with a triple and three RBI and Gonzales with four RBI. Marley Hilton threw four innings and allowed just one hit, two walks, and struck out 10. Ivelisse Moreno closed the game and threw one inning and allowed no hits and struck out two.

The Leopards are now 13-4 on the season and will face Galveston Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at home to continue their Temple Tournament.
