Leopards Open Tournament with Run-Rule Win Over Weatherford

The Temple College Leopard softball team opened the 2019 conference tournament with a 10-1 five inning run-rule over Weatherford College in Weatherford. The Leopards were quick to get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alyssa Escamilla led off with a single followed by a Tiler Noyola RBI triple and then a Savanna Parker infield RBI single that plated Noyola. Perhaps the hardest hit of the night came next off the bat of Daisy Gonzalez which squared up Weatherford's pitcher, Casson Rasmussen, but Rasmussen was able to finish the play and get Gonzalez out at first. Leopard bats were still hot in the bottom of the second and the Leopards were able to score six runs. Kennedy Jimenez led off with a single, Mackenzie Bartlett bunted Jimenez over, and MacKenzie Purcell lined a RBI single scoring Jimenez. A walk, four more hits, and a Coyote error plated the other five runs that inning. In the bottom of the fourth Parker walked, Gonzalez hit a double off the top of the wall just shy of a homerun, and Lenzi Stewart followed with a two RBI shot to complete the Leopard scoring. Weatherford's lone run came off of a Kristen Kamnick solo homerun off Breanna Hernandez in the top of the third inning. Hernandez threw 4.1 innings and had five strikeouts, one walk, and allowed five hits. Marley Hilton closed the final two outs of the game.
