Temple’s Season Ends

The Temple College softball team defeated Shelton State 14-1 in five innings to start the day but then was defeated by the #1 seed Seminole State College 6-2 to end their season and a shot at back-to-back national championships.

Temple started the day hot pounding out 16 hits and scoring 14 runs to run rule Shelton State 14-1. Several Leopards had multiple basehits in the game. Tiler Noyola went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Savanna Parker went 3 for 3 with a homerun, walk, three runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base, MacKenzie Purcell 2 for 2 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI, Ava McCoy went 2 for 3, and Maddie Weatherly went 3 for 3 with a two three-run homeruns, two runs scores, and seven RBI. Weatherly's seven RBI in one game set a new National Tournament single game record passing up the previous record of five RBI in one game. Temple's Breanna Hernandez earned the win throwing three innings and allowing only two hits and striking out seven. Marley Hilton threw two innings in relief and allowed one run, unearned, on no hits.

In game two on the day the Leopards' bats went cold and they lost 6-2 to the #1 seed, Seminole State College from Oklahoma. Weatherly stayed hot as the only Leopard with multiple base hits this game going 2 for 2 with a double off the centerfield fence and a walk. Noyola and Parker scored the only two runs for the Leopards. Temple's Taylor Gruell go the start and took the loss throwing 2.2 innings. Hernandez came in and threw with final 4.1 innings in relief. Seminole scored all of their runs off of homeruns, hitting two off of each of the Leopards. The highlight of the game defensively for the Leopards came in the 6th inning when Seminole had runners at first and second and tried to sacrifice bunt the runners over and bunting into a 1-2-6-8 double play.

The Leopards finished 3-2 in the NJCAA National Tournament which put them in either 5th or 6th place. Overall the Leopards finished 49-11.
