Leopard Softball Sweeps Navarro in Home Opener

Game 1

Despite seeing their 5-run lead whittled down by the end, the Leopards still held off  for a 9-7 victory on Wednesday. Navarro closed the gap by scoring on a single and a home run.

Adelyn Becerra collected three hits in three at bats in the win. Becerra hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning. The Leopards jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Kennan Nunamaker tripled, scoring two runs, Emily Delgado doubled, scoring one run, and Alyssa Budisalovich singled, scoring one run. Temple College Leopards added one run in the third when Lily Garcia singled, making the score 5-2.

Three more Leopard runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 8-3. Budisalovich doubled, scoring one run, and Becerra homered to center field, scoring three runs.  Maveryck Lightfoot hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth for the Temple College Leopards.

Haley Crawford started in the circle for the Leopards. The starting pitcher gave up 12 hits and seven runs (four earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three. Delgado appeared in relief for Temple College Leopards.

The Leopards tallied 16 hits in the game. Becerra and Budisalovich each collected three hits. Delgado, Nunamaker, and Lightfoot each collected multiple hits. The Leopards had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Becerra, Delgado, and Bre Jackson led the team with two walks each.

 

Game 2

Emily Delgado hit two home runs and drove in three as the Leopards defeated Navarro 6-4. Delgado homered in the first and sixth innings.  Navarro started out by scoring 1 run in the top of the first inning. The Leopards jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Bre Jackson tripled, Delgado homered to left field, and Channing Lipe tripled, each scoring one run.

Navarro hit a 2 run homer, which helped Navarro tie the game at three in the top of the second.

Navarro took the lead in the top of the third, scoring one run, to give Navarro the lead, 4-3.

The Leopards jumped into the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Delgado homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Maveryck Lightfoot grounded out, scoring one run.

 

Hannah Calhoun pitched four innings in relief for the Leopards. The reliever allowed two hits and zero runs while, striking out five and walking three. Delgado started the game for the Leopards. They gave up seven hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one. 

 

Lipe and Delgado each collected two hits for Temple College. The Leopards were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.

 

The Leopards will be back in action on Tuesday, February 6th, as they take on Blinn at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
