Baseball Takes Series Over #20 Odessa College

TEMPLE, Texas the Temple College baseball wins weekend series over 20th ranked Odessa College by winning game 1 of the Saturday doubleheader afternoon. Another extra inning thriller in game 1 gave the Leopards their 14th win of the season. However, they game up short in game 2.

Game One Recap
Freshman LHP Dash Albus put the Leopards in a position to pick up their 14th victory on the season as he surrendered 2 runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Albus handed the ball off to Freshman RHP Brandon Taylor in the 6th inning who worked in a bit of trouble facing two batters that both scored to tie up the game. Sophomore Douglas Hendricks worked out of the jam allowing no hits through his inning of work and striking out one. After a couple of infield hits in the 7th, the Wranglers tied up the game at 5-5 sending it into extra innings. David Stich came in relief throwing the last two innings and eventually picked up the win allowing no hits and striking out 3.

The Leopard offense worked hard to manufacture the 6 runs it took to win the game. Travis Chestnut led the offense with 3 RBI and as he blasted a 3-run homerun in the second inning.

In the 9th inning Bryan Williams started things off with a 1-out walk that was followed up by a Joseph Redfield single that moved runners to second and third. Dawson French came into the game as a pinch runner and the eventual winning run at second base for Bryan Williams. Down to their last strike, Hogan Heller ripped a ball down the third base line to score Dawson French and secure the third straight walk-off win for the Leopards.

Game Two Recap
The Leopards fell behind early as Freshman RHP Fisher Roberts made his first career start. 5 runs in the first two innings was all that it took to defeat the Leopards as they lost 5-3.

Offensively…
Joseph Redfield went 3-4 with a run scored.
Caleb Hill went 2-4 with an RBI.

On today's doubleheader…

Overall this was a good series for our squad as we were able to get everyone in to contribute in various situations. I was pleased with our offense and our pitching continued their success that they have had throughout the season. We still have work to do, but I feel that we are headed in the right direction as we get started with conference play this week.

On today's doubleheader...

I thought overall our offense has stepped up since our past series by continually squaring balls up. Pitching kept us in the first game and gave us a chance to win late. We need to keep building on this in order to prepare ourselves to make a run at playoffs through a tough conference schedule.
