Leopards Improve to 3-1 After Sunday's Games

Leopards Improve to 3-1 After Sunday's Games

TEMPLE, TX – Temple College Baseball moves to 3-1 after going 1-1 in Sunday's games against Angelina College and Galveston College.

Game 1 v. Angelina College Recap

Luis Martinez-Gomez got the nod in game 1. After shutting out the Roadrunner offense and striking out three in his first 2 innings of work, Martinez-Gomez got himself in a little bit of trouble in the third inning and was relieved by Christian Okerholm who quickly haulted the Roadrunner scoring threat as they were able to plate 3 runs that inning. That ended up being the end of Angelina's offense as Garrett Baumann and John Michael Ramirez followed up Okerholm and posted a combined 3 straight scoreless innings to finish the game.

The Leopard offense had a tough day at the plate as their only run was scored in the 5th inning off a RBI double by Simon Larranaga. The Leopards had many opportunities to score, but failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

Simon Larranaga 1-4, 2B, RBI
Cade Climie 1-3, 2B, BB
Ty Marthiljohni 1-2, BB

Game 2 v. Galveston College Recap
The pitching staff continued their dominance as Clay Westbrook took the mound to start off Game 2 v. the Whitecaps. Westbrook threw 4 innings for the Leopards allowing 6H, 0BB, 2R while striking out 3. Zak Johnson was first out of the pen for the Leopards in Game 2 with 1IP, 1BB, 2SO and allowed 3H. Johnson received the win for today's game.

With two runners on in the 6th inning, Tyler Cooper was called upon to keep the 3-2 lead over Galveston College. Cooper proceeded to strike out 3 consecutive batters to move the game into the final frame and eventually picked up the save as he went 3 up 3 down in the 7th to pick up his second save of the year.

On Sunday's Games…

I thought our pitching staff did a really good job today. Anytime that you can keep the opposing offense to three runs or less is a good day. Unfortunately in game 1 our offense couldn't come up with the big hit to score the runs we needed to win the game. We did a great job coming back and picking up the win in game 2. This group never got down on themselves and continued to compete in order to end the day on a good note. We just need to keep working and see we will see where it takes us come May.

Tyler Cooper, Freshman Pitcher

On Today's Win…
It was an intense game and I was able to trust my teammates behind me so that I could get out of the inning and keep the lead as we moved to the 7th inning. I felt good, everyone lives for the moments and once you get in their I was ready for it. I think everyone was a little upset after game 1, we know we can perform better and everyone locked in so that we could do what needed to be done to finish the day with a win.
