TC Baseball plays No. 1 Blinn tough, swept by the Bucs

The Temple College Leopards baseball team began their 2025 season with a huge test: No. 1 Blinn College in a Saturday doubleheader at damp Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

The Buccaneers emerged with a doubleheader sweep, despite the Leopards making life very difficult in the nightcap. The finals were 19-9 in six innings and 4-3.

Blinn scored nine runs in the first three innings before Temple reached the scoreboard in the top of fourth on RBI singles by Kade Davis and Jackson Todd.

The Buccaneers led 16-2 in the top of the fifth inning when the Leopards scored seven runs in the next two innings, due in part to a pair of home runs by Kolvin Davis and Andrew Ermis, to pull to within seven.

However, Blinn scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the first game by way of run rule.

Blinn banged out 17 hits and committed one error.

The Leopards clubbed 11 hits but made three errors in the field that led to a number of unearned runs.

Ermis and Lance Cantrell each has three hits.

Temple grabbed their first lead of the doubleheader in the top of the first inning of game two on Ermis' RBI single.

Blinn scored single runs over the next two innings and led before Kash Millar's RBI single in the top of the fourth tied the game at 2-2.

Ermis had a battling at-bat in the top of the fifth of at least a dozen pitches before being hit with a full-count fastball. It set up an RBI double from Elias Leon Padilla to give TC a 3-2 lead.

Blinn got the equalizer in the bottom of the seventh and turned a leadoff triple into a game-winning run in a walk off single.

The Buccaneers had nine hits and committed two errors.

Leopards stroked eight hits and committed one error. Cantrell had two hits and Ermis was hit by two pitches.

TC pitching combined for 18 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings.

Temple will host Odessa College on Friday afternoon at the Danny Scott Athletic Complex. The Leopards and Blinn will complete their four-game loop with a doubleheader on Saturday in Temple.
