Temple Baseball to wrap series at home against No. 1 Weatherford College

The Temple College Leopards will wrap up its second week of North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference action, as they take on No. 1 Weatherford College in doubleheader play on Saturday at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.

Game times are 1 pm and 4 pm.

The Leopards and Coyotes split their Wednesday doubleheader at Roger Williams Ballpark. Temple won game one in six innings, 12-1. Weatherford won game two in seven innings, 9-1.

Temple (11-12 overall, 4-2 NTJCAC) has six wins this season against top five opponents: Three against No. 5 McLennan Community College (two on March 5, one on March 8), one each against No. 1 Blinn College (Feb. 1), No. 3 Midland (March 1), and No.1 Weatherford (March 12).

Through 23 games, the Leopards are hitting .274 and have a .394 on-base percentage. TC scored 129 runs on 172 hits, 31 doubles, 14 home runs, 115 runs batted in, 101 walks, have been hit by pitches 28 times, and have stolen 37 bases on 40 attempts.

Andrew Ermis (team leading .393 BA and .553 OBP, five doubles, two homers, 14 RBI, 12 HBP), Lance Cantrell (.368 BA, .462 OBP, HR, 17 RBI, team-leading 28 hits), Ryder Rutledge (.367 BA, .472 OBP, two HR, 11 RBI, team-leading 19 runs scored and eight stolen bases), and Kade Davis (.360 BA, .467 OBP, two HR, 13 RBI) lead the team in the majority of the offensive categories.

The Leopards pitching staff has a 6.32 ERA, with 161 strikeouts and 107 walks.

Patrick Collopy (3-1, 3.27 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 17 walks in 33 innings) tossed a five-hitter in the 12-1 win). Eric Tenery (3-1, 3.76 ERA, 20 strikeouts and 18 walk in 26 1/3 innings) got the game two start and scattered nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Tobin Eschief (3-3, 4.94 ERA, two complete games, 31 strikeouts and 13 walks in 31 innings pitched) and Kade Davis 2-3, 7.00 ERA, complete game shutout, 16 strikeouts and 14 walks in 18 innings pitched) are the other two starting pitchers in the Leopards' rotation.

In 23 games, the Coyotes are hitting .333 with a .465 on-base percentage. Weatherford (19-4 overall, 4-2 NTJCAC) has hit 26 homers, driven in 170 runs, scored 196 runs on 211 hits, 48 doubles, six triples, has 153 walks, been hit 17 times, and stolen 39 bases on 49 attempts.

Trace Mazon (.443 BA, .552 OBP, six HR, 27 RBI, 32 runs scored, 20 walks, seven steals), Manuel Salas (.413 BA, .511 OBP, two HR, 24 RBI, 22 runs scored, 15 walks), and JC Davis (.400 BA, .489 OBP, HR, 19 RBI, 23 runs, team-leading 32 hits, 14 walks) are a few of the top producers in the Weatherford starting lineup.

The Coyotes' pitching staff has an ERA of 3.32, with 179 strikeouts and 82 walks.

Noah Bentley (3-0, 3.18 ERA, 32 strikeouts and 13 walks in 28 1/3 innings) scattered five hits and struck out seven in the game two win. Evan Brandt pitched five innings in the game one loss.

AJ Miera (4-2, 3.10 ERA, 34 strikeouts and eight walks in 29 innings), Dylan Russo (2-0, 1.93 ERA, six strikeouts and four walks in 9 1/3 innings), Cooper Strawn (2-0, 3.86 ERA, 19 strikeouts and 15 walks in 11 2/3 innings), and Logan Simmons (0-0, 10.80 ERA, eight strikeouts and six walks in 8 1/3) have previous starts for the Coyotes. Rodney Pena and Trent Collier lead the staff with two saves each.
