The Temple College baseball team hosted the Cisco College Wranglers in the conclusion of their Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference series Saturday afternoon at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.
The Wranglers' offense was a busy bunch in the first game and had to come from behind to sweep the Leopards, by scores of 13-3 (six innings) and 5-3.
Cisco scored four runs in the first inning off TC starting pitcher Tobin Eschief and a run in the second of reliever Carson Henderson.
Temple hit the scoreboard in the third inning on a single by Andrew Ermis that scored Kash Millar and Kade Davis.
The Wranglers posted single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with the tally in the fifth on a solo homer by Savion Flowers. Cisco scored six times in the sixth to take a 13-2 lead.
Temple scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a groundout by Ryder Rutledge.
Gage Kooyers had four hits, Ryan Alaniz and Andy Chapa had three hits, and five other Wranglers had two hits to account for Cisco's 20-hit output.
The Leopards collected nine hits, with Ermis and Sage Sanders each with two hits.
Xander Forsell's two-run double gave the Wranglers a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game two.
Temple grabbed their first lead of the afternoon in the bottom of the second. Jackson Todd's groundout scored Kadyn Martinez, Sanders scored on a wild pitch, and Brayden Simmons singled home Hunter Baros to give the Leopards a 3-2 lead.
Cisco picked up an unearned run in the sixth on an error as Kooyers scored to tie the game at 3-3.
The Wranglers took the lead in the top of the ninth, as Rene Vela's single scored Trey Acreman and Ryan Alaniz's sacrifice fly scored Andy Chapa to give Cisco a 5-3 lead.
Martinez drew a walk with one out in the ninth off Cisco reliever Baley Ray, and Rutledge came on to run. However, the Wranglers stranded Rutledge at first to end the game.
Cisco (29-14 overall, 14-10 NTJCAC) picked up seven hits, led by Isaac Hertzog's 2-of-4 performance.
Wesley Peck pitched seven innings for the win, having allowed three runs on two hits. Baley Ray pitched two innings in relief, walked two and struck out one.
Simmons and Sanders collected the lone two hits for the Leopards, who did not have a hit over the final seven innings.
Kade Davis picked up the no decision, having pitched six innings, allowed three unearned runs on five hits, struck out seven and walked two. Bralen Veazey picked up the loss in relief, having pitched three innings, allowed two runs on two hits, walked three and struck out three.
Temple College (16-23 overall, 7-13 NTJCAC) will travel to Denison on Wednesday to start a four-game series against Grayson College. The Leopards and Vikings will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, followed by a doubleheader at the Danny Scott Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.
